Educreations: Family Photos!

Last week Rata 4 children brought pictures of their families to school for our writing. We shared our photos with a buddy and then used the iPad app Educreations to record some of our ideas to use the next day. Here are some of the videos we made:

New Learning: Sustainability and Why Earth is Special

This week Rata 4 has been learning about why the Earth is special and why we need to take care of it. We read Dr. Seuss's The Lorax and talked about how we could take care of the Truffala seeds:

Then we watched some videos to learn about what makes the Earth unique, and came up with a chart of what we'd learned:

We finished off by talking about what we can do to help take care of the Earth:
Next we'll be remembering what we know about the sun and thinking about why it is important to Earth.

Our Final Gymnastics Session!

Rata 4 had our last gymnastics session! We were all happy to have gym, but a little bit sad that it's over. Here are some photos from our final time with moveMprove:

Rata 4 also wrote about how we felt about going to our last session. We've been practising using feeling words in our writing, come visit our class to see some of our work!

Learning Why We Need the Sun

For the next two weeks, Rata 4 will be learning a bit about why the sun is important to Earth. This is important for learning about sustainability and how the Earth works--especially plants! This is great, because we just learned with Harold the Giraffe about how our bodies use oxygen and make carbon dioxide. Here's a video we'll be discussing in class about the sun and plants:

Learning about Directions

This week Rata 4 spent some time looking at mazes to learn about how to give directions. We talked about position and direction, and then problem-solved how to map a series of movements we made. We worked with a buddy using a variety of different materials to figure out what shape we made. Here are some of photos of our work. Check out our Maths wall in class for more!

Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education Trust

This week we've been lucky enough to visit Harold the Giraffe twice! We learnt about our bodies, like what nutrients we need to be healthy, the role of the brain in the body, and how our respiratory system works. Here are some photos from our visits:

Photo Writing

Thank you for bringing in your lovely baby photos last week for our writing! The children produced some wonderful descriptions to caption their pictures. This week, we'll be using a family photo in our writing! Details will be sent home today in their communication books. Also watch for samples of some of their writing later this week!
